On behalf of the staff of the Aswan Heart Centre (AHC) and importantly all the patients – young and old – I extend a heartfelt thanks to the Egyptian Community in the United States of America for hosting us and for this initiative. AHC is a special establishment dedicated to offer state-of-the-art free medical services to ALL patients regardless of their color, gender or creed as well as advancing science and medicine in this region through a carefully tailored research program. A lot has been achieved to date, and this would not have been possible without the support of the great Egyptian People; their generosity, support and strong belief in this project has made such dream come true. Susan Nandi is full of hopes for her 3 year old girl's future. Little Immaculate Nambowa was one of ten children who received free heart surgery at Heart Institute Mulago last week in a mission that closed yesterday.

A team of surgeons from Chain of Hope in the UK with the support from Gift of Life International, together with ten Ugandan doctors have offered free open heart surgery at the Uganda heart Institute Mulago.

Magdi Yacoub, the renowned British-Egyptian heart surgeon, has left Cairo for Addis Ababa to practice cardiac surgery, German news agency DPA reported.

DPA quoted medical sources at Cairo International Airport as saying that Yacoub left Cairo with a 17-member team of doctors, experts and nurses for the Ethiopian capital, where he will conduct operations on Ethiopians, including children.

The agency did not clarify whether the visit carried any political significance.

Egypt’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Mohamed Idris has recently received the renowned British-Egyptian heart surgeon Sir Magdi Yacoub and his medical team who are currently paying a visit to Addis Ababa from July 13th to 17th.

Sir Yacoub and his medical team have left Egypt heading to Addis Ababa for the purpose of performing immediate cardiac surgeries for free for the children and adults of Ethiopia who are suffering from congenital heart defects. The medical team are also planning to perform a number of cardiac catheterizations on the sidelines of their humanitarian mission to Addis Ababa.

Egypt's ambassador in Burundi, Atteya Abuol Naga, said renowned heart surgeon Magdi Yacoub has agreed to set up a hospital for children suffering from heart diseases.

The Egyptian surgeon visited Burundi from 17 to 20 July.

Abuol Naga said the Selselat al-Amal ("Chain of Hope") institution would provide medical and financial resources necessary to build and equip the hospital.

Yacoub and his top aides would train Burundian doctors and supervise the hospital, he added.

Yacoub headed a medical delegation to Burundi to discuss the possibility of establishing a hospital for minute heart surgeries for children.

Robert Bono, heart surgery professor at the University of Chicago, accompanied Yacoub, along with representatives from the Chain of Hope charity he founded.

The delegation met with senior Burundian and Health Ministry officials.

Yacoub had earlier visited Ethiopia, where he monitored 25 heart surgery operations, in an attempt to improve Egypt's frayed relations with the African state.

De heren van de rotary club van Naples, Florida gaan 5 oktober een dagje golf spelen waarmee ze geld inzamelen voor het goede doel. Magdi Yacoub (met 1 of 2 chirurgen) zal samen met een team artsen en verpleegkundigen van Boston Children's en Massachusetts General (Boston) naar San Salvador vertrekken om daar minimaal 10 kinderen met aangeboren hartafwijkingen te opereren.

United Airways en Qatar Airways hebben vandaag bevestigd dat ze zorg willen dragen voor het transport van vier kinderen met een ouder (san salvador - doha v.v) waardoor het mogelijk is geworden dat een aantal kinderen in El Salvador waarbij dringend hoogcomplexe hartchirurgie noodzakelijk ook geholpen kunnen worden.
